Other Aesthetic Traits

This page is focused on looking at some of the most rare traits and the differences in traits across elements.

PreviousBody TraitsNextCombat Description

Last updated 3 years ago

There's no good way to run the numbers on this, but number of traits does correlate to value in some ways. It's extremely rare for pets to have 15 traits (the max number of traits). 14 traits is also very rare. I have seen collectors pay a premium for pets with high numbers of traits. As far as looking at individually rare traits (beyond moves, card borders, and body types) I have not noticed collectors paying a premium to this day. Collectors, reach out to me on twitter if you think differently.

Note that the percentages I give here are not the same as the ones you'll see in the "properties" section on OpenSea. This is because OS includes unhatched eggs in their percentages. I only used hatched eggs in my calculations and I extrapolate from there. OpenSea makes everything look more rare than it actually is. I am calculating this way to give you a better estimate of the whole collection.

**Using gem.xyz, I was able to sort pets by number of traits and identify how rare each number of traits is. For hatched pets (that aren't deities), the minimum number of traits is 10 and the maximum is 15. Here are the rarities for number of traits: 10 traits - 18% 11 traits - 39% 12 traits - 28% 13 traits - 10.5% 14 traits - 2.5% 15 traits - 0.2%

Anyways, here I get to show off some of the fantastic art in this collection. I am constantly impressed by the complexity of the traits and how many differences there are for a single trait. The 8 traits I'm focused on in this section are Accessories, Back, Eyes, Glasses, Hats, Mouth, Tails, & Wings. If you notice something cool that I've missed, definitely reach out to me on twitter or in the discord and I'll get it into this article.

Accessories

Bandit Hankerchief (4.4%) - different on fire pets vs other

Lion Fire Mane (0.19%) - different on fire pets vs other. Only 1 fire pet with this trait hatched so far.

Stone armor (0.09%) - Only appears on base 3 pets (all elements)

Lightning aura (0.08%) - No air pets hatched with this yet

There are several extremely rare ties, but here are the two (currently) most rare: Mint tie (0.06%) & Magenta tie (0.06%)

Back

Big Ribbon (2.6%) - Different on fire pets vs other

Turtle Shell (2%) - Different on fire pets vs other. Also larger on base 1 pets.

Shark Fin (0.9%) - Heavily biased towards water pets. Different color on base 1 compared to other bases. Only appears on base 3 or base 5 of non-water elements

Thunder cloud (0.2%) - Only air pets

Cloud puffs (0.5%) - Only air pets

Rock with gemstones (0.53%) - Only earth pets

Big Tomato (0.41%) - Only earth pets

Eyes

Variant Eyes (0.42%) - Only found on base 8 earth, base 8 water, and base 5 water. Looks different on each of them

Variant Eyes (A) (0.38%) - Only found on base 9 air and fire pets (including all variants for those 2 elements)

Variant Eyes (B) (0.16%) - Only on base 9 air pets (including air variant 2, but none hatched with air variant 1 so far)

Face

Clown Nose (0.21%) - Rarest face feature, but no special differences across body types

Glasses

Glasses are the rarest trait to have in general. If you want to find pets with 15 traits, I recommend using glasses as a filter.

3D Glasses (0.36%) - Rarest of all glasses. Look particularly different on Base 1 pets and Base 6 water pets. As of right now, there are only two Base 1 pets with these glasses and only one base 6 water pet with these.

Gentleman's Glasses (0.47%) - Once again, the base 6 water pet has a special pair. Only one of these exists (and it looks quite good with the top hat).

Base 7 pets with triple glasses (0.15%) - There are no base 7 with the gentleman’s glasses yet, so it’s unclear if those will be placed in three pairs.

Hats

While there is a massive selection of hats and many extremely rare hats, I am limiting my focus to the most interesting differences I can find.

Rare Cat Ears (0.10%) - Looks different for fire pets vs others

Ogre ears (0.76%) - Different color for each element

Beetle Horn (0.58%) - There are many variations. Adopts color of pet

Mouth

Furry Beard (2.55%) - Looks different on each element

Variant Mouth (0.14%) - Only on base 8 and base 5 water pets (and their variants)

Variant Mouth (A) (0.19%) - Only on base 9 air and fire pets (and their variants)

Variant Mouth (B) (0.11%) - Only on base 9 air pets (seen on variant 2, but not variant 1 yet)

Tails

Lion Tail (0.87%) - Different appearance for each element, except certain air bases have a special one (only three electric lion tails in the collection so far)

Wings

Phoenix Wings (2%) - Different appearance for water vs other pets

Flame Wings (1.9%) - Different appearance for fire vs other pets

Leaf Wings (1.73%) - Different appearance for fire vs other pets

Small Dragon Wings (1.64%) - Different appearance for fire vs other pets

Mecha Wings(1.37%) - Different color for each element

**Base 10 fire pet has some special qualities to some of its tails. The glowing tail is unique to this base and element (I'll show some counter-examples here to demonstrate)
